Q&A

Question 7

Answer:
Any of the Anthem plans (the Retiree Medical Plan F or the three Anthem SmartValue Private Fee for Service plans) will coexist with a Medicare Part D plan outside of the Electric Boat Retiree Prescription Drug plan options. However, if you elect the Health Net Navy plan and wish to have a Medicare Part D Plan, you must enroll in either of the two Electric Boat Retiree Prescription Drug Plans with Health Net. This is not a plan rule, this is a Medicare rule. If you have a Medicare HMO plan and want to have Part D with it, you must enroll with the same carrier – in this case, Health Net. In fact, if you enroll in the Navy POS plan, your “capped” or “unlimited” prescription drug plan (whichever applies) will become part of your Navy POS plan (as a package) and you will have one ID card to use at your medical providers, hospitals or at the pharmacy. Your Navy POS plan would become what is considered an MAPD or a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan.

For whatever reason, this does NOT apply to the Anthem Plans as you may enroll or keep your coverage in any of the four Anthem plans while having an individual Part D Plan, or with either Electric Boat Retiree Prescription Drug Plans.

We are quite certain that if you review and compare the coverages of the Electric Boat Retiree Prescription Drug Plans with individual Part D plans in your area, you will find the plans to be competitive in plan design and cost.
